BIMOTA – Italian and one of the World’s most renowned boutique motorcycle manufacturers went from strength to strength from their humble beginnings 40 years ago.
The company name was derived from the first two letters of each of the partners last names – Bianchi, Morri and Tamburini.
Named SB3 by being the third Suzuki powered Bimota, this model was based around the Suzuki GS1000 engine, producing around 87 horsepower.
Rising rate single shock rear suspension, adjustable steering axis, Marzocchi forks with 260mm Brembo discs and a frame designed to keep constant tension on the chain were just some of the world leading features of the SB3.
Expensive and exclusive back in the day – yes, however as a boutique manufacturer accountants were not running the show, unlike their mass production counterparts.
Only 402 SB3’s were manufactured between 1979 and 1982 with the frame kits sold to be completed with donor GS1000 componentry.
This example, ( number 110 of the 402 ) has covered a genuine 6,177 KMS by the one owner – however, it was stored in his lounge room and later in a heated garage for most of its life.
Assembled with a brand new GS1000S crate engine by Colemans Suzuki – the New Zealand Suzuki Importer – the original personnel involved in this assembly were contacted to certify the provenance of this rare motorcycle.
The bike has undergone a FULL, no expense sparred, restoration and refurbishment with us – interested buyers are able to obtain a detailed list of this work following their expression of interest.
Genuine and rare Bimota features include the factory 4 into 1 exhaust and original magnesium/alloy wheels.
Limited build run motorcycles from boutique manufacturers are creating strong demand and values for these motorcycles world wide – Contact Richard Scoular to register your interest.
