The bike that changed motorcycling forever !
Here we have probably one of the rarest GSXR750’s in existence !
Chassis number 000015 – Yup the 15th GSXR750 built in the first month of production – February 1985.
We are offering chassis number 000015 together with another nearly complete 1985 donor bike to facilitate a full restoration.
To clarify – chassis 000015 is the rolling frame in the pictures and the donor bike is the nearly complete bike.
It was our intention to restore this bike ourselves however that plan has been shelved due to a number of other projects already being under way.
There are a number of very notable specification differences between the 1985 Gixxer and the ones produced in subsequent years making the flawed ’85 the pick of the litter for collectors.
The key 1985 differences are as follows –
Fairing – the whole front fairing ( upper, middle and lowers ) was specific the 1985 only – in fact the lower belly pan was finished in fibreglass not plastic. In this case we have spent a year searching for the correct 1985 pieces and now they are fitted to the donor bike.
Wheel base – 1” shorter in 1985.
Tank – smaller capacity in 1985 ( flatter along the top )
Wheels – same pattern for 85/86/87, but the front wheel was weaker in 1985 – racers were known to bend front wheels during a tank slapper !
Both the donor bike and Chassis 000015 are export spec bikes – with full horsepower and Mikuni Flat slide carbs.
Full sticker kits are available to facilitate correct restoration – additionally, we are able to refer the purchaser to a renowned Suzuki restorer, if the project was to be completed professionally.
Given the number of collectors chasing around the world for low chassis number bikes today – such as Kawasaki Z1’s – then this fluky find will pull serious attention ( and $ ) when correctly restored !
