Benelli were one of Europe’s most successful and renowned motorcycle manufacturers until ultimately they went under at the hands of the Japanese onslaught, like many others.
One of their last models made was the parallel twin TORNADO 650 – if only they had stuck to treading their own path like the 750cc and 900cc six cylinder street bikes they made during the 1970’s as well.
It didn’t take Honda long to cotton onto the fact that Benelli were making the most exotic and technically sophisticated race bikes in the 1950’s and early 1960’s and begin to copy their multi cylinder bikes.
In recent years the Benelli name was resurrected before being on sold to Chinese interests.
Here we have a ’74 Tornado in great overall condition for an unrestored bike – showing 7,401 miles.
These days, Café racer builders would burn down a small village to get their hands on a finned double shoe front brake like the factory item on this bike !
