Yes really, they did !! Harley Davidson, under the AMF ownership was determined to slow the invasion into the USA of high quality small capacity motorcycles from Japan – the answer came in fact from Italy with the AERMACCHI company.
Harley Davidson purchased the company and proceeded to have ‘American’ design taste put into the production of a number of smaller CC road and trail bikes – this is the TX125 Trailie from 1973.
However, the design team did come up with some unique features – two differing size rear sprockets – one for higher geared road use and the other for trial use – problem was you needed to have some mechanical skill to add the few chain links to convert from road to trail – not something the universally favoured Japanese market entry bikes needed…
So here we have a Genuine Harley Davidson, albeit not quite as we know them today, but a piece of history all the same – she has travelled very low miles, showing only 2,153 miles.
Great for impressing all your heavy duty mates?
